Cat Training Article - Why Cats Aren't Dogs
At first, the subject of this article may seem a little strange – and obvious to you.
I mean, no one needs to be told the specific reasons why cats aren't dogs, right?
Well even though most people say they understand the difference, their actions prove otherwise, because they still try to train their cat the same way as a dog.
Why? Because they don't fully understand what those differences are.
A lot of cat haters proclaim that cats make bad pets because they can't be trained.
But this simply isn't true – and this myth is upsetting cat lovers left and right. The truth is, cats can be trained, they just can't be trained using the same methods you would use when training a dog!
The fact is, cats and dogs don't think the same way. They are each born with their own natural instincts that cause them to react to various situations in a different way.
For example, a good dog trainer will use a dog's natural pack instinct to establish him or herself as the leader of the pack. Once this crucial step is properly completed, the rest of the training comes easily because the dog's natural instincts are to please the pack leader.
But you can't do that with a cat. Cats may be part of a hierarchy, but they aren't part of a pack and they don't follow a pack leader.
You also cannot use physical punishment to train your cat. If you do, your cat will just learn to fear you.
Some people mistakingly believe their cat “knows” it did something wrong, because when they catch the cat in an unwanted act, the cat will run and hide.
This just means your cat is afraid of you, and has learned to pick up on your body language (no matter how subtle, cats are extremely skilled at reading the slightest changes in body posture) and run whenever you appear angry.
If you've ever been the slightest bit interested in learning how to finally solve your cat's behavioral problems, now is the time.
