How to Kitten Proof Your House, Room-by-Room:

Kitchen
Put child safety locks on cabinets where bleach, dish soap and other cleaning supplies or hygiene products are kept.

Make sure all knives and other sharp utensils are always put away. Never leave dirty knives in the sink or on the counter.

Keep the disposal smelling fresh and less tempting for your cat to hang around by chopping up lemons in it.

Make sure to keep the garbage can out of reach.

Bathroom
Hairdryers and other similar appliances should always be put away. They may fall on your cat, or your cat could accidentally knock them them into the sink or toilet.

Keep items such as nail polish, nail polish remover, medicine, dental floss, cleaners and razors out of reach.

Laundry Room
Clothes dryers are very dangerous for cats & kittens. Cats love them because they're warm. I've heard many, many horror stories about cats and kittens alike found dead in the dryer.

Make sure to never leave the dryer open when you aren't standing near it - and even then, always check before you close it and turn it on that your cat hasn't snuck by and hopped in.

Because the risks are so high for your kitten/cat to be injured, you should keep the laundry room off-limits.

Office
Put away all paper clips, thumb tacks, push pins, rubber bands, and any other small “toys” that would be attractive to a cat/kitten. Anything that you wouldn't want a toddler to ingest – you don't want a cat to ingest.

Also, be sure to cover all cords and keep them from hanging loose. Cats like to play with and bite cords and often pull appliances down on themselves.

Living Room
If you have a fireplace, make sure it is covered so the kitten/cat can't get in and get themselves trapped or burned. (or dirty!)

Don't leave breakable items like glasses and vases sitting on the coffee table or other places where your kitten/cat can reach. Also, don't leave jewelry or other sharp objects around that your cat can swallow.

Cords from blinds and curtains. Your cat/kitten can get tangled up in the cords and choke. Tie them up out of your kitty's reach.

Garage
The garage should definitely be an off-limits area for your cat/kitten. Garages tend to contain too many poisonous and hazardous substances. Anti-freeze in particular is sweet tasting and very tempting for your kitty – it is also deadly. Just 6 milliliters is fatal.

Balcony
You may be watching your cat carefully, but just because you're watching doesn't mean your cat won't jump. All it takes is one bug or bird and your cat will be gone.

From such a high distance, even if your cat does land on it's feet – it can cause serious injury. (Would you jump off your balcony even if you knew you'd land on your feet?)

Other Dangers
Poisons – Make sure to remove all rat, snail, roach and ant bait – these are all dangerous to your kitten/cat. See the poison section of this ebook for other dangerous substances to watch out for.

Watch out for your kitten. Kittens are so tiny and naïve, they can sometimes be playing around near your feet and you can accidentally step on them – or they can be curled up in a blanket on a chair and will accidentally be sat on.

Lie down on the floor to see the world from your kittens point of view. Are there any tiny crevices in the wall your kitten could “explore?” Are all the heater vents properly covered? Any other items that could be dangerous if swallowed.
